Marty and Sue Bunis have been radio collectors for about ten years. Prior to that, they collected LuRay China, 1950's and 1960's TV lamps, Josef figurines, advertising signs, and just about anything else that caught their fancy. In their collecting travels they were always fascinated by old radios, but were hesitant to buy them because there was very little reference and pricing material available to radio collectors at that time. Eventually, they became brave enough to buy a few sets, never dreaming that those first radios were the beginning of a whole new world for them.
Because there was no good, comprehensive price guide available
when they first started collecting radios, Marty and Sue decided
to make their own shirt-pocket notebook -- listing model numbers,
prices, and descriptions -- that they could carry with them whenever
they were hunting for radios. As time went on and they discovered
how many hundreds of different radios were manufactured, that
little notebook eventually grew to become this series of The
Collector's Guide to Antique Radios!
George Kaczowka first discovered radios some forty years ago up in the attic bedroom of his uncle. He became fascinated by foreign broadcasts, and the "magic" of short-wave radio. His fascination grew over the years, and worked part time as a radio and television repair person in the last two years of high school. By that time, all of the neighbors and relatives would bring over their old radios and his basement quickly became a radio graveyard.
George first started collecting radios seriously about twenty years ago, and focused mainly on early radios of the thirties with short-wave. He branched out into early transistor radios in the late 1980s. Recently, George found the original chassis from his uncle's radio so many years ago, and plans to restore that first set which sparked a lifelong interest.
George has been involved in computers for almost as long as he has been involved with radios. Several years ago, he and Marty met, and discussed the possibility of making this CD-ROM. One thing lead to another, and finally, after over a year of effort, you have the results in your hands!
